The role of regular system maintenance

Water runs through your home every single day. Regular maintenance ensures your filtration system continues to perform as intended.

Staying on top of maintenance helps:

  • Maintain fresh taste and water clarity
  • Protect plumbing and appliances from unnecessary wear
  • Extend the life of your filtration system
  • Keep your warranty valid

It's a small commitment that protects a long-term investment.

Understanding filter replacement timing

Filter replacement timing depends on your system type, household size, water source and local conditions.

For most mains-filtered homes, a 6-12 month cycle is typical. Replacing filters as recommended keeps water quality and flow consistent. Overdue filters can gradually reduce performance and place unnecessary strain on the system.

You can find detailed step-by-step guidance on replacement timing and procedures on the Filter Replacement page.

Looking after different system types

  • Whole home system

Whole home systems typically require annual filter replacement. Between services, simple visual checks of housings and fittings help identify issues early. Monitoring pressure and flow at taps also provides reassurance that the system is operating efficiently and protecting water quality throughout the home.

  • Reverse osmosis systems

To maintain high-quality drinking water, filters should be replaced at least every 12 months. Waiting for flow to slow is a common misconception, as many impurities are tasteless and odourless, meaning water quality can decline before any visible change. Following a regular service schedule ensures effective filtration. Because the RO membrane is a delicate component, servicing and replacements are best carried out by a qualified technician to maintain performance and warranty coverage.

  • Rainwater and UV systems

Rainwater systems require periodic inspection of pre-filters for sediment build-up and regular monitoring of the UV lamp. The UV lamp must remain powered consistently to operate correctly. Interruptions to power or missed lamp replacements can compromise disinfection performance. The UV lamp should be replaced every year. Routine checks ensure your rainwater remains safe, clear and properly treated year-round.

General care for your filtration system

Ongoing care does not require tools or technical knowledge.

Simply:

  • Pay attention to changes in taste, clarity or pressure
  • Keep the installation area clear and accessible
  • Follow recommended filter replacement schedules
  • Record any unusual observations

Never dismantle sealed components or modify plumbing connections, as this may impact safety and warranty protection.

Warranty and maintenance

Your warranty protection depends on proper installation and ongoing maintenance.

To maintain coverage:

  • Installation must be performed by a licensed plumber
  • Only approved filters and components should be used
  • Recommended filter replacement schedule should be followed

Skipping maintenance or using unapproved parts can void warranty protection.
