Why regular filter replacement matters

Regular filter replacement is essential for maintaining water quality and system performance. Over time, filters collect sediment, chemicals and other impurities from your water supply. If left unchanged, this build-up can reduce filtration effectiveness, restrict water flow and place unnecessary strain on the system.

Routine servicing, including replacing worn filter cartridges and checking seals, helps protect your system and extend its lifespan. While replacement schedules vary depending on water quality and usage, most systems require filter replacement at least every 12 months.

Your technician will advise the ideal schedule for your home, based on your specific water profile and system configuration.

DIY replacement vs technician servicing

Many homeowners choose to replace whole home filter cartridges themselves, particularly when following a routine replacement schedule.

For more technical components, including reverse osmosis membranes or UV lamps, we recommend professional servicing. Incorrect installation can affect performance, water quality and warranty coverage.

If you’re short on time or prefer peace of mind, our experienced technicians can handle complete home filtration filter replacement quickly and correctly.

How to replace your filters

Whole home filtration systems are designed to allow for straightforward filter changes, provided the correct steps are followed.

General filter replacement process:

1. Remove the UV protective case and switch the system to bypass mode by turning all three levers (one on each side and one at the bottom of the system) to the horizontal position.

2. Relieve system pressure by pressing any one of the three red pressure relief buttons on the housings. A small spray of water may occur. If the system is correctly bypassed, the reading on the pressure gauges will drop.

3. Loosen the filter housings by sliding the supplied wrench onto the housing and turning in a clockwise direction (gently pulling to the left). Be mindful when removing the housings, as they will be slightly heavy. Support the housing from underneath to avoid dropping or damaging it. Take care not to trap your hand between the filter and pipework as the housing comes free.

4. Remove the old filters from the canisters (sumps) and remove the plastic wrapping from the new filters. Check that the grommets have not come away from the filter head. If they have, ensure they are placed back into the head to maintain a tight seal.

5.  Place the white sediment filter into the first cartridge, then temporarily place the blue carbon filter into the middle cartridge. Turn the bottom and left bypass valves to the vertical position to flush the carbon filter. Once flushed, turn the system off. Remove the carbon filter and place the yellow resin filter into the middle cartridge. Turn the bottom and left bypass valves to the vertical position to flush the resin filter, then turn the system off again.

6. Insert all three filters into the housings in the same order as they were removed (the standard configuration is Sediment, Resin, Carbon - White, Yellow, Blue from left to right). If you're unsure of the order, consult the filter replacement team. Ensure the rubber O-rings are properly seated in the lip of each sump.

7. Reinsert the housings into the system head and hand-tighten using the wrench until firm. Do not overtighten.

8. Restore normal system operation by turning all three levers back to the vertical position.

9. Open a cold tap inside the home and allow the water to run for approximately 5 minutes. This flushes the system and removes any air or debris from the filters.

Filter order and flushing steps may vary depending on your system configuration. If you're unsure at any stage, contact the Complete Home Filtration filter replacement team before proceeding.

Important note:

Always consult your user manual before servicing your system. Some systems require professional servicing, and incorrect handling or manual cleaning may affect warranty coverage.
